Conservation
In addition to making traffic and safety improvements, the Reimagine Boulder Highway project will meet our area’s critical conservation needs and regulations, including Assembly Bill 356, which prohibits the use of Colorado River water to irrigate useless, non-functional turf and landscape, including in public right of ways and street median. Trees and grass in the Boulder Highway median are currently being removed in preparation of the future center running BRT lanes. When the project is complete, the center transit line will occupy the median, improving pedestrian safety and traffic flow. Additionally, trees that are diseased, water-thirsty and do not provide shade were removed or will be removed and replaced with water-smart desert landscaping.
