Why will Boulder Highway be two lanes instead of three?
Lane reductions on Boulder Highway will provide the following benefits:

Traffic calming to improve safety for all users of the corridor. There will be very little change in traffic on the south end of Boulder Highway; however, based on traffic studies conducted within the area, the projected increase in travel time is much less than would be anticipated based upon the new roadway design. While it may slightly increase commute times, the reduction of lanes will significantly enhance safety for all road users.

Drivers will spend less time waiting at red lights on Boulder Highway. When the roads are not as wide, pedestrians take less time to walk across the road. The current red-light timing on Boulder Highway is longer to accommodate pedestrians needing to cross.

Safer crossings for pedestrians. Once the project is complete, there will be fewer lanes for pedestrians to walk across.

With separate center-running transit lanes, vehicles won’t get stuck behind buses.
What is the purpose of the Reimagine Boulder Highway Project?

One of the main goals of this project is to change the perception of Boulder Highway from high-speed, motor vehicle-oriented roadway to a calmer, safer, travel corridor for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit-riders and motorists through enhancing safety along the corridor. The project area also includes a high number of driveways in a relatively small area, each with roadway access, and not all crossings currently include ADA enhancements or sidewalks. The project will further enhance safety through the installation of new traffic signals, wider and better-connected sidewalks, improvements to lighting, and adjustments to current signals along the corridor.

Who is funding the project?

This project will be funded by several state, and federal entities using a mix of funding sources and funding partners. These funding sources and partners include the CCRCFD, RTC, NDOT, FHWA, Federal INFRA Grant, developer contributions and traffic participation funding. No local taxpayer funds were used for this project.
Why did the speed limit change to 35 MPH?
What is BRT and how will it be different from the current bus on Boulder Highway?

BRT uses the latest technology for buses, providing an elevated transit experience that is designed to be faster and safer. When the project is complete, the BRT will operate in the median of Boulder Highway, reducing the length of pedestrian crossing of the roadway. The buses will have a designated lane so their interaction with general purpose lanes will be minimal, expediting services. The BRT will operate in a similar manner as the existing transit routes.

Reimagine Boulder Highway was envisioned more than 20 years ago by the City of Henderson. Public input has played a major role in shaping the project you see today. Over many years, the city has collected thousands of input surveys and conducted countless meetings with the public and stakeholders to create a project that best serves the community. What are the benefits of having the bus lane in the median?

Center running transit allows for free-flowing transit on the corridor that doesn’t weave in and out of vehicle traffic. The transit is more direct, safer and allows for the normal lanes of traffic to operate without conflicts with transit. Intersections will be signalized, encouraging transit riders and pedestrians to safely cross the
street when required.
Doesn't this just mean all transit customers will have to cross the street to ride the bus?

In theory 50% of pedestrians come from each side of the roadway. The crossings are the same with an exception that the crossings are shorter due to not needing to cross a bus lane that is located within the normal roadway section. Intersections will be signalized, encouraging transit riders and pedestrians to safely cross the street when required.
